The County
Federation of Lancashire YFC's is part of a National Youth Organisation incorporating over
800 clubs, of which 22 are situated in Lancashire. They
service primarily, but not exclusively, rural areas aiming to provide an opportunity for
young people to develop personal and social skills in an atmosphere which is fun, but
encourages members to gain a sense of achievement through its activities and democratic
structure. Each
individual club is run by members whose ages range from 10-26, with associated members and
advisory members providing means of advice and support.
Typical activities would include sports competitions, public speaking, farm
and craft skills, charity work and heart-stopping social life. Clubs in
the same geographical area are banded into regions and organise bigger events for their
clubs, for example:- Regional Rallies, where many competitions are held to select the best
members/teams to complete at County level. Training
is organised through the County Federation for its members as required, and there is also
a full calendar of social activities - the Spring Fling in March, County Ball in October
and the Carnival Ball at Blackpool in January. The
main activity based events are the Rural Skills Day in March, and the County Rally in May
of each year. The
Federation provides unique opportunities for International visits at a subsidised cost and
members have recently visited Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Iceland under this
scheme. YFC is a
very friendly and social movement and Lancashire extends a warm welcome to any new
members, whether or not they come from a
farming background, within the age range 10 to 26 years. ASSOCIATED MEMBERS: 43 (over
26yrs of age) COMPETING MEMBERS: 530 (10-26
years)
