PARTNERSHIPS
AND COMMUNITY SAFETY
Based
at Headquarters, the Partnerships and Community Safety Department maintains a local,
national and international focus to assist all members of the organisation in achieving
the Constabularys objectives within a POP framework.
The purpose of the Department is to identify, monitor and respond to
emerging issues, which affect, or may affect, the Constabulary by providing guidance and
assistance to all levels in relation to these issues. The
wide range of issues to partnership working, are community and community safety, and race
relations. Staff within the department
network with other forces in this and other counties and work closely with the Crime
Reduction Unit, the Home Office, Association of Chief Police Officers, Government Office
North West, Commission for Racial Equality and many other influential agencies. This liaison ensures that the department is able
to provide overarching frameworks to facilitate and add value to the work of the
Constabulary at both corporate and divisional level. The Partnerships team provides management support for the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime, and is responsible for raising funding to finance community safety projects under the Community Safety Initiative Scheme. During the financial year 1999-2000, the Partnership saw its membership grow by over 30% and granted £76,000 to 31 projects across the county. This money was augmented by over £286,000 to match funding levered in by project managers. During 2000 it is anticipated that the extensive library of crime prevention and community safety advice displayed on the recently launched LANPAC website will become a widely utilised tool amongst Lancashires business community, and lead to further increases in membership. |
